China is first on the Top 10 list with some 2,940 5-star hotels, which represents approximately two percent of all of the country's units, followed by Turkey with some 800 5-star hotels, which account for six percent of the country's total.

Jumeirah Burj Al Arab. The world's first six-star hotel, it is regularly voted as the world's most luxurious hotel and has taken opulence to a new level. All 202 duplex suites have at least 170 square meters of space and all come with their own private butler, Jacuzzi and spectacular views.

Cities with the Most Five-Star Hotels. As of 2017, data shows that the city with the highest number of five-star hotels is London with a total of 75 five-star hotels. Following closely is Dubai with 61 while New York comes third with a total of 59. Paris (56) and Miami (46) close the top five.

A greater number corresponds to a greater level of luxury. That said, there are official and unofficial star ratings, and any hotel can say that it's a 3-, 4-, or 5-star property. Officially, the ratings go up to 5, but unofficially, some hotels call themselves “7-star” properties to indicate a high level of luxury.
